MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 01st March, 2019) The operator of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which will deliver Russian natural gas to Europe via the Baltic Sea, said on Friday that it had laid over 800 kilometers (497 miles) of the pipeline.

"Over 800 kilometres of pipes have so far been laid on the seabed, in line with the permits granted by Germany, Finland, Sweden and Russia," the Nord Stream 2 AG said in a statement.

Henning Kothe, chief project officer at Nord Stream 2, said that works were "progressing well and according to schedule."

"Also the other construction works are on track to complete the twin pipelines by the end of 2019," Kothe said, as quoted in the statement.

Nord Stream 2 is a joint venture of Russian gas giant Gazprom and five European companies. The project envisages the construction of two gas pipelines that will run from Russia, through the Baltic Sea and to a hub in Germany. It aims to deliver 55 billion cubic meters (1.9 trillion cubic feet) of Russian natural gas to the EU states every year.
