Russia stands ready to contribute to peaceful settlement of all disputes between India and Pakistan as well as to be a mediator between the countries, Konstantin Kosachev, the Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee chairman, said on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th February, 2019) Russia stands ready to contribute to peaceful settlement of all disputes between India and Pakistan as well as to be a mediator between the countries, Konstantin Kosachev, the Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee chairman, said on Wednesday.

The latest standoff between India and Pakistan in the disputed Kashmir region escalated on Wednesday as the two countries engaged in an air battle, with both sides losing downed jets. On Tuesday, the Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike against a camp of Jaish-e-Mohammad group, considered terrorist by India, which was located across the Line of Control in the region.

"Russia, of course, is ready to contribute in every possible way to the peaceful settlement of all disputes between the two states in view of our absolute disinterest in a 'victory' of any of the parties; after all, a winner in a conflict between two nuclear powers can only be the one who is guided by the logic of 'the worse, the better.' That is, in fact, enemies of India and Pakistan," Kosachev wrote on Facebook.

Kosachev also noted that Russia could be a mediator within a trilateral format on settlement of a conflict between the two countries, if needed.

Earlier in February, the relations between India and Pakistan significantly aggravated following a deadly terrorist attack against Indian army in Jammu and Kashmir. After the attack, India accused Pakistan of having a "direct hand" in the incident and blamed the neighboring nation for harboring and protecting terrorists.
