RED SEA COAST, (Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2019) The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, today launched a fish landing centre in Wahjah, Dhubab District, in Yemen’s Red Sea Coast.

The centre is part of a rebuilding project that includes a fish landing harbour, two rooms to manage the local fishing association, and an integrated solar power system.

The ERC’s representative in the Red Sea Coast explained that the project will benefit around 6,000 fishermen in Wahjah and neighbouring areas while pointing out that it is part of the ERC’s efforts to support the fishing sector in Yemen’s Red Sea Coast. It also aims to ease the suffering of those working in the fishing sector, as well as those who market and sell fish, to improve their living conditions.

Awad Saeed Baidhi, Director of the Fishermen Establishment in Wahjah, stated that more than 1,000 fishing boats return to the harbour carrying large amounts of fish, ranging from 20 to 30 tonnes per day, due to the support of the UAE for fishermen, their families, and other people in the Red Sea Coast while pointing out that the project will benefit over 40,000 people in Al Hadba, Al Nazelia, Beirut, Al Bahia, Al Qahera, Greater Wahjah, Lesser Wahjah, Al Sakrah and Wadi Jedar.

Several fishermen thanked the ERC for supporting them and other people in the Red Sea Coast while affirming that the fish landing centre will enable them to return to fishing and improve their working conditions, as well as the living conditions of their families.
