US President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised the progress in Vietnam's economic development and also commended the country's steps to reduce its trade deficit with the United States
HANOI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th February, 2019) US President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised the progress in Vietnam's economic development and also commended the country's steps to reduce its trade deficit with the United States.
"You have shown something that the world is getting to see, the incredible job that you have done in Vietnam in a very short period of time ... Congratulations on the tremendous work that you have done over a short period of time. It is so obvious to anybody that looks, congratulations to all of Vietnam," Trump said at a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, broadcast by Global news.
He added that Vietnam did "a great job" and "should be proud."
The US president also noted that he appreciated the commercial agreements, signed earlier in the day, as well as the fact that Vietnam was reducing its trade deficit with the United States.
"I also appreciate the fact that you are looking at much of our military equipment. We make the best military equipment in the world by far, whether it is jet fighters or missiles or rockets or anything you want to name," Trump said.
Before meeting with the prime minister, Trump has held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart, Nguyen Phu Trong. During their meeting in Hanoi, the two leaders signed a number of important trade agreements.
Trump has arrived in the Vietnamese capital for his second summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, set to start later in the day.
