Russia Investigative Committee Opens Case Against Ukrainian Prosecutor Over Kerch Incident

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against an investigator of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and a Ukrainian prosecutor over the attempts to bring to account Russian servicemen that detained Ukrainian ships upon breaking through the state border in the Kerch Strait, the committee said Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th February, 2019) The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against an investigator of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and a Ukrainian prosecutor over the attempts to bring to account Russian servicemen that detained Ukrainian ships upon breaking through the state border in the Kerch Strait, the committee said Wednesday.

"[Our servicemen] fulfilled their duty to protect the Russian state border in accordance with the norms of international and national laws. However, the Ukrainian law enforcement services initiated a criminal case in which senior investigator [Alexander] Gubsky prosecuted without any evidence seven Russian military who had taken part in the operation to detain Ukrainian sailors who illegally crossed the Russian state border on 25 November 2018," spokeswoman Svetlana Petrekno said.

The Russian investigative committee opened case against Gubsky, the SBU senior investigator for Odessa region, and Ukraine's deputy military prosecutor for the Southern District Roman Mrochko, the spokeswoman specified.
