Ukrainian Parliament Annuls Signature Collection To Impeach President

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th February, 2019) The chief manager of the Ukrainian parliament's secretariat on Tuesday voided forms used by Ukrainian lawmakers to collect signatures in support of President Petro Poroshenko's impeachment.

The announcement was made on the website of the Verkhovna Rada, the legislature, hours after presidential contender Yulia Tymoshenko announced the launch of impeachment proceedings over a corruption scandal.

"Petro Bodnar has signed an order to annul the forms used to collect signatures of people's deputies in support of a procedure to remove the president from office in an impeachment process and set up an ad hoc investigative committee," the announcement said.

The opposition accused Poroshenko of high treason after a Ukrainian investigative website, Bihus.info, exposed an alleged scheme by his inner circle to defraud the state-run defense firm, Ukroboronprom, of roughly $9 million in kickbacks by selling military vehicle parts smuggled in from Russia at inflated prices.
