DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2019) Director General of Dubai Municipality Dawoud Al Hajri said today that all of Dubai Municipality’s projects are inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed’s vision serves as the framework for the Municipality’s strategic plans that aim to provide sustainable infrastructure and support the rapid development taking place in various sectors in Dubai, he said.

Al Hajri said all the sectors of the Municipality work as an integrated system round the clock to provide the best services for Dubai’s residents and visitors. The Municipality adopts the highest international standards and practices to meet the objectives of Dubai Plan 2021.

The Director General of Dubai Municipality was speaking at a 'Meet the CEO' event organised by the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) at Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel, Madinat Jumeirah. A host of local and international media attended the event.

Al Hajri highlighted the Municipality’s main tasks in urban planning, health and safety, environment, infrastructure and support services in addition to its mega construction, sewage and storm-water management projects.

Al Hajri also discussed the Municipality’s efforts to expand green areas in Dubai to 1.7 million square metre. Constituting 5% of Dubai’s gross area, this represents an area of 3.1 square metre per capita. Expanding green areas in Dubai is part of the Municipality’s efforts to limit the impact of global warming and protect the environment. He said that Dubai Municipality has planted 204,000 trees.

Al Hajri further said that Dubai Municipality is using a sustainable greywater irrigation system. In collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, the Municipality launched the region's first environmental nanometric satellite,DM SAT1, to collect and analyse environmental data that will be used to develop solutions for increasing pollution in cities and address climate change.

Regarding housing projects, Al Hajri said His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid has allocated three new residential areas for citizens in Al Roya3, Wadi Shabak and Mishref, which together offer 10,000 plots of land. He said the key focus of these projects is to enhance the welfare of families.

The Director General of Dubai Municipality also said that the new corporate identity for Dubai Municipality, recently approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is based on six core principles: competitiveness, innovation, responsibility, transparency, participation and happiness. He said the new corporate identity is aligned with the Dubai Plan 2021 and the Dubai Municipality strategy.

During the event, Al Hajri also talked about the strategic projects being implemented currently by the Municipality to meet Dubai’s current and future needs. These include the Dubai Deep Tunnel Storm Water System, Waste Management Centre, Dubai Municipality Environmental Satellite and Dubai Traditional Market.

Al Hajri said Dubai Municipality is working with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre to launch DM SAT1, the region's first environmental nanometric satellite, which is designed to collect and analyse environmental data that will be used to find solutions for increasing pollution in cities and to address climate change.

He also said the Municipality is working on the Dubai Traditional Market project, which aims to develop traditional souqs in the Deira and Bur Dubai areas. A new attraction to Dubai’s tourist map, the souqs, when completed, are expected to attract 12 million visitors by 2020.

Al Hajri also talked about the launch of Foodwatch by the Food Safety Department of Dubai Municipality to facilitate data exchange between authorities, food businesses, service providers and consumers. By utilising digital monitoring techniques, the platform will offer full traceability of foods with validated ingredient and nutritional information.
