North Macedonian Prime Minister Says NATO Integration Bringing Economic Gains

The prime minister of freshly renamed North Macedonia said on Monday that the Balkan nation was feeling the early economic effects of its integration into NATO

BELGRADE (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th February, 2019) The prime minister of freshly renamed North Macedonia said on Monday that the Balkan nation was feeling the early economic effects of its integration into NATO.

North Macedonia will only become the military alliance's 30th member once all allies ratify the accession deal, but it can, in the meantime, take part in NATO activities as an invitee.

"NATO integration means peace and stability and an economic boost to our citizens. The number of investors who have invested here or plan to do so has already increased," Zoran Zaev said, as quoted in the government's press release.

The prime minister added that NATO inclusion would raise the quality of life in the country and play a positive role in its friendly ties with neighbors.

He spoke after a meeting with Albanian Defense Minister Olta Xhacka, whose country has already ratified North Macedonia's accession protocol.

The accession protocol on North Macedonia's joining NATO was signed at the alliance's headquarters on February 6 shortly before Macedonia's name change took effect after years of debates and negotiations with Greece. Athens had been blocking its neighbor's NATO aspirations over feared claims to a Greek province of the same name.
