Energy Community May Discuss Introduction of New EU Gas Doctrine in December - Kopac

The Energy Community countries will be able to consider the introduction of the amendments to the EU Gas Directive in their legislation not earlier than this December, Janez Kopac, director of the Energy Community Secretariat, told Sputnik on Monday

BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th February, 2019) The Energy Community countries will be able to consider the introduction of the amendments to the EU Gas Directive in their legislation not earlier than this December, Janez Kopac, director of the Energy Community Secretariat, told Sputnik on Monday.

According to Kopac, the amendments to the EU Gas Doctrine should first get the approval of the European parliament and the EU Council. The text of the document should then be adopted for the Energy Community and approved by the organization's Ministerial Council.

Kopac stressed that the first opportunity to do so would not be available earlier than December 2019 when the next meeting of the council is planned.

The Energy Community is an international organization which brings together the European Union and its neighbors to create an integrated pan-European energy market. The key objective of the Energy Community is to extend the EU internal energy market rules and principles to countries in South East Europe, the Black Sea region and beyond on the basis of a legally binding framework.

Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Serbia are among the members of the Energy Community.
