Connecting tolerance to ghaf tree affirms inherent value to UAE’s heritage: Thani Al Zeyoudi

DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 25th Feb, 2019) Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, stated that making the ghaf tree the logo of the Year of Tolerance will intensify the efforts of relevant national authorities to increase the numbers of green spaces and local plants, most notably the ghaf tree.

He also noted the role of the ghaf tree in the life of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as well as his efforts to increase their numbers and issue legislation to prohibit their destruction while pointing out that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment is working with its partners to encourage the community, institutions and individuals to continue Sheikh Zayed’s legacy, through adopting the decision of the UAE Cabinet regarding local agriculture.

Regarding connecting the values of tolerance to the ghaf, he said, "Tolerance is an inherent and well-established value in our heritage and mind, and was and will remain a key foundation of the Emirati community, which hosts over 200 nationalities living in harmony and peace. Despite all the changes, the ghaf tree will remain a witness to the ability of the UAE’s children to be steady, anchored and adaptable."

After Al Zeyoudi made this statement, Tarish Al Mansouri, Director-General of the Dubai Courts, planted a 'tolerance tree', as part of the activities of the Dubai Courts during UAE Innovation Week, which aims to support the creative ideas of institutions and individuals.

Dr. Al Zeyoudi praised the efforts of the Dubai Courts in the area of government innovation and excellence, as well as to adopt tolerance as a major institutional value while expressing his happiness at the planting of the tolerance tree.
