MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th February, 2019) The bicameral grand assembly of Afghanistan (loya jirga) will gather on March 17 to discuss the terms for negotiations and reconciliation with the Taliban movement, Mohammad Omar Daudzai, the head of the Afghan High Peace Council's Secretariat, said Monday as cited by the 1TV broadcaster.

The assembly will last at least until March 20, and might be prolonged for another two days, according to the media.

Daudzai said that some 2,000 people from different backgrounds will participate in the assembly, 30 percent of them women.

He noted that the agenda of the assembly did not include a discussion of the provisional government, the creation of which may be required following negotiations with the Taliban.

The loya jirga last gathered in 2013, approving the draft agreement with Washington determining the status of US troops in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan has long been suffering from an unstable security situation. The government has been fighting the Taliban, which has been waging a war against Kabul for almost two decades, and the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), which has been operating in Afghanistan since 2015.
