Moldovan Electoral Bloc ACUM Refuses To Recognize Results Of Vote In Transnistria

CHISINAU (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th February, 2019) Leaders of the pro-European electoral bloc ACUM ("Now") said on Sunday that they refuse to recognize results of the Moldovan general election in the Transnistrian single-mandate constituencies.

"We are saying now that we do not recognize results of the election created for Transnistrian residents. So we are calling on international observers to recognize elections in these Constituencies as being not in line with the standards of the OSCE and the Council of Europe," ACUM leader Maia Sandu said.

According to Sandu, tens of thousands of Transnistrian residents were transported to the constituencies to cast their ballots and were paid for that, which is a serious violation of the election procedure.

ACUM co-chair Andrei Nastase pointed out that the Interior Ministry had ignored these developments and called on the United States and the Council of the EU, where Romania is currently holding the rotating presidency, to pay attention to the situation around the Moldovan election.

Moldova is holding parliamentary election on Sunday with 51 lawmakers being elected via single-mandate constituencies and 50 others via party lists.
