Stopping river waters to Pakistan will have devastating impact: Sehrai

Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai has said that any change to the water supply to Pakistan would have a devastating impact

SRINAGAR (Pakistan Point News / NNI - 23rd February, 2019) Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai has said that any change to the water supply to Pakistan would have a devastating impact. Reacting to the New Delhis move to stop water flow to Pakistan from rivers, Sehrai in a statement said that it is not only unethical but violation of international treaty signed in 1960. Jammu and Kashmir being a hilly state, stopping water to Pakistan will heavily flood it (J&K) as the state has no storage capacity for trillions of gallons of water.

It would not be just an act of war but a humanitarian crisis as well. And this move will have a devastating effect on JK as well. It is a calculated and deliberate move to punish and deprive people of their universal rights. Stopping a river means an act of war, he said.Meanwhile, Sehrai welcomed the Saudi Arabis stand to support the Kashmiris struggle for right to self-determination and its demand that the Security Council should act on its resolutions on Kashmir issue.

The TeH chairman said, Saudi Arabia is an important member of OIC group on Kashmir. We hope that the Saudi Arabia and OIC forum will continue to support the people of Kashmir on moral and diplomatic fronts and will also take concrete steps to raise their collective voice for the people of Kashmir. Meanwhile, Sehrai paid rich tributes to two militants, who were slain in a gunfight with the forces at Warpora, Sopore, in north Kashmirs Baramulla district. NNI
