UN Concerned By Politicization Of Aid To Venezuela, Urges Avoiding Violence - Spokesman

UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd February, 2019) The United Nations is concerned about the politicization of the delivery of US humanitarian aid in Venezuela and calls for avoiding violence, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a press briefing on Friday.

"The Secretary-General strongly appeals for violence to be avoided. He has been following the situation in Venezuela with increasing concern and will, obviously, keep a very close eye on what happens tomorrow," Dujarric said. "We are concerned about the politicization of humanitarian aid, for our part, aid should be used in a way that is impartial, that is free of political or military objectives."

Humanitarian aid is due to be delivered to Venezuela's borders on February 23, according to US-backed opposition leader Juan Guaido who last month proclaimed himself the interim president. Russia, China, Mexico and several other countries continue to support Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as the country's only legitimate head of state.
