Accounts Chamber Head Kudrin Warns New Sanctions May Become Shock to Russian Economy

Russian Accounts Chamber Chairman Alexei Kudrin said on Tuesday that Russia had adjusted itself to the previous sanctions, but new restrictions may become a shock for the country's economy

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th February, 2019) Russian Accounts Chamber Chairman Alexei Kudrin said on Tuesday that Russia had adjusted itself to the previous sanctions, but new restrictions may become a shock for the country's economy.

Last week, US Senate introduced a bill aimed at slapping Russian banking and energy sectors, as well as the country's sovereign debt, with yet another round of sanctions over Moscow's alleged interference in other states' internal affairs, and Russia's "aggression" against Ukraine, in particular, during November's Kerch Strait incident.

"We have adjusted ourselves to a certain sanction level, indeed. Unfortunately, any new sanctions will cause new shocks and the need for new adaptation. They may be somewhat harsher that what we have now," the official told reporters.

The new possible US sanctions would also target Russian liquefied natural gas projects abroad, the cybersecurity sector, Russian shipbuilding industry and the exploration of crude oil resources in Russia, among others.

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said on Monday that the European Union could also impose new sanctions on Russia in relation to the Kerch Strait incident within the next two weeks.

Russia has repeatedly refuted allegations of interference in other countries' affairs, arguing that they had never been substantiated.
