MBS becomes first Saudi leader to give speech in English

Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Pakistan on Sunday for a two-day visit.

Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 18th February, 2019) Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has become the first Saudi ruler to deliver a speech in English in any country.

Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Pakistan on Sunday for a two-day visit.

The Saudi Crown Prince was accorded rousing and warm welcome on his arrival in Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Cabinet received the Saudi Crown prince and his high-powered delegation at Nur Khan Airbase. The prime minister himself drove him to the PM house, where he was met by a guard of honour.

Not only that, Riyadh and Islamabad signed agreements worth $20 billion were signed during the visit of Mohammed bin Salman to Pakistan.

Seven bilateral agreements, mostly energy-related, were signed the presence of the crown prince and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Saudi crown prince then delivered a speech and also called himself the ambassador of Pakistan in Saudi Arabia. To many people’s surprise, he delivered his speech in English.

Earlier, the Saudi leaders had always delivered a speech in Arabic while on foreign visits.

The speech of Saudi crown prince was quite comprehensive.

Addressing the reception dinner at PM House, the crown prince said that Pakistan is a "dear country" to all Saudis and that the two countries "have walked together in good and bad times".

He said Pakistan today had a great future in store "with a great leadership", and noted that the country's GDP grew by 5 per cent in 2018.

"We believe that Pakistan is going to be a very, very important country in the coming future and we want to be sure we are part of that," he said.

Turning towards Prime Minister Khan, he said his country had been waiting for that kind of a leadership to partner with and build a lot of things together.

He noted that Saudi Arabia and Pakistan today signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for investment cooperation.

"We believe the amount of that kind of investment is US $20 billion," MBS said. "It's big, for phase one."

He expressed the hope that the investment will grow to bigger numbers in the coming years and be beneficial for both the countries.

The Saudi royal said his country would collaborate with Pakistan economically, politically and in terms of security. "We believe in our region, that is why we are investing in it," he added.
