MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th February, 2019) At least seven police officers were killed by militants from the Taliban Islamist movement, who attacked a checkpoint in the northern province of Balkh, local media reported on Sunday.
According to the Ariana news broadcaster, the attack took place on late Saturday in the Chimtal District. The attack also reportedly left at least three Taliban militants injured.
Afghanistan is suffering from an unstable political, social and security situation due to the activity of the Taliban movement and the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia).
The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces are currently conducting joint offensive operations to combat terrorism across the country.
