Pakistan Foreign Minister Says to Discuss Afghanistan, Economic Ties With Lavrov in Munich

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told Sputnik on Friday that he would discuss the situation in Afghanistan as well as bilateral cooperation and ways of attracting Russian investments in Pakistani projects during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference

MUNICH (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th February, 2019) Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi told Sputnik on Friday that he would discuss the situation in Afghanistan as well as bilateral cooperation and ways of attracting Russian investments in Pakistani projects during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

"The Afghanistan situation [will be discussed during the meeting with Lavrov]. Promoting bilateral relations between Russia and Pakistan, attracting Russian investments, particularly energy sector, defense cooperation. Russia is an important country," Qureshi said.

In recent months, a number of countries, including Pakistan, have actively attempted to organize negotiations to resolve the situation in Afghanistan. In December, such talks between the Taliban and US representatives were held in Abu Dhabi with the participation of delegations from Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Prior to that, Moscow hosted its second meeting on Afghanistan, in which delegates from Russia, Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, the United States, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan took part.

In addition, Moscow hosted intra-Afghan talks on the country's settlement process on February 5-6. The conference was convened by the Afghan diaspora, and is not part of the Moscow format.
