WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th February, 2019) The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State terrorist group (IS, banned in Russia) has conducted 199 strikes over the past two weeks, Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Between January 27 - February 9, 2019, [coalition] conducted 199 strikes consisting of 326 engagements against IS targets in Syria and Iraq," the release said.

The coalition carried out 179 of the strikes in Syria, destroying dozens of targets including 131 supply routes, 53 fighting positions, 31 staging areas and 14 vehicle-borne improvised explosive devises, the release said.

US-led forces also struck nine petroleum tankers, three aircraft operation areas, command and control nodes and oil storage facilities, the coalition said.

The coalition's 20 strikes in Iraq targeted IS tactical units and destroyed 14 supply routes, three buildings, a weapons cache, a fighting position and a tunnel, the release said.

During the same period of time, the coalition detected 262 strikes carried out by other actors based on the opposite side of the Euphrates River, the release said.

The coalition "is committed to avoiding and in every case minimizing civilian casualties [and] calls on all other actors in the area to observe the same precautions," it said.

The US-led coalition of more than 70 countries is conducting military operations against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. The coalition's operations in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the Syrian government or the UN Security Council.
