Large-scale international military exercises involving more than 250 servicemen from 15 countries are taking place in the province of Kars in northeastern Turkey, the country's general staff said in a statement on Wednesday

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th February, 2019) Large-scale international military exercises involving more than 250 servicemen from 15 countries are taking place in the province of Kars in northeastern Turkey, the country's general staff said in a statement on Wednesday.

"From February 4 to February 22, the Winter-2019 drills with the participation of Turkey's Ground Forces, Air Force and Navy are being held at a military range in Kars province. Fifteen countries sent 251 servicemen to take part in them. The purpose of the exercise is to strengthen cooperation and coordinate operations of units in winter conditions," the statement says.

According to the Anadolu news agency, servicemen from Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Italy are taking part in the exercise.

Turkish-made attack helicopters and drones are also taking part in the exercise, which is being monitored by the country's leadership. The drills also include an exhibition of Turkish defense industry products.

The Turkish General Staff also announced naval exercises dubbed Mavi Vatan, scheduled to run from February 27 to March 8. They will be held in the Black, Aegean and Mediterranean seas and will become the largest naval drills in Turkey's history.
