The first Russia-Africa summit scheduled for fall will improve the level and quality of relations between Moscow and African states, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday

SOCHI (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th February, 2019) The first Russia-Africa summit scheduled for fall will improve the level and quality of relations between Moscow and African states, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday.

"We advocated boosting cooperation between Russia and African states in all areas, primarily in the context of the initiative that [Russian] President Vladimir Putin expressed at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg last July about holding the first ever Russia-Africa summit in fall this year ... We proceed from the fact that this will significantly improve the level and quality of our cooperation, outline specific ways to further enrich our historically very friendly relations with African friends," Lavrov said at a press conference following the talks with his counterpart from Lesotho, Lesego Makgothi.

The Russia-Africa business forum is also scheduled for this fall, the minister noted.

He also recalled other events of this format, including Russia-Africa Public Forum that took place in October last year, and the upcoming parliamentary forum, as well as a meeting of the African Export-Import Bank shareholders in Russia, both scheduled for 2019.

According to the Roscongress Foundation, the upcoming Russia-Africa summit will be attended by the heads of African states and representatives of Russian, African, and international business and government agencies as well as integration associations on the African continent.
