Germany, France Reach Compromise on Nord Stream 2 Pipeline Disagreements - Reports

Germany and France have reached compromise on their differences over Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, German Handelsblatt newspaper reported on Friday, citing EU sources

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 08th February, 2019) Germany and France have reached compromise on their differences over Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, German Handelsblatt newspaper reported on Friday, citing EU sources.

Paris said Thursday it would back an EU initiative on gas pipeline regulations that might threaten the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which is expected to bring gas from Russia to Europe. Germany has been a strong proponent of the project.

EU embassies in Brussels are being advised on the Franco-German proposal to see if enough support on part of other bloc members can be drummed up, the newspaper said.

If a new proposal was adopted, internal energy market rules would be applied to third-party pipelines even before they are constructed.
