MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th February, 2019) The third meeting of the main political forces of Palestine will be held in Moscow next week, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday."The third meeting of representatives of all major Palestinian political organizations will be held at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian academy of Sciences in Moscow on February 11-13 ... We consider this event to be very important and timely, especially given the recent intensification of contradictions between the main Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas," Zakharova told a briefing.
She noted that all issues that stood in the way of restoring Palestinian unity would be discussed.
"Having made a proposal to hold such an inclusive intra-Palestinian meeting in the Russian capital, Moscow was guided by its principled position on the issue of Palestinian-Israeli settlement, the achievement of which is impossible without ensuring Palestinian national unity on the well-known political platform of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)," Zakharova stressed.
She added that participants of the meeting would be received by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Hamas, listed as a terrorist organization in many countries, including the United States and Israel, gained control of the Gaza Strip after a short war with the rival Fatah movement in 2007, which led to the enclave's blockade. Fatah has repeatedly criticized Hamas for splitting the country and preventing the Palestinian Unity Government, created in 2014, from ruling Gaza. Fatah is the dominating faction of the PLO.
