France, Germany Announce $74Mln Contract on Next Gen Fighter Jet Creation - Statement

French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly and German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen announced the signing of a contract worth 65 million euros ($74 million), which aims to create combat aircraft of the new generation, the French Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday

PARIS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th February, 2019) French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly and German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen announced the signing of a contract worth 65 million Euros ($74 million), which aims to create combat aircraft of the new generation, the French Defense Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The aircraft is part of the project known in France as Systeme de Combat Aerien Futur (SCAF), which should provide both countries with new fighters, as well as drones, according to the document.

"The ministers announced a contract between Airbus and Dassault for architecture and the concept of SCAF. This contract will allow manufacturers to define the main SCAF lines and each of its components. 65 million euros have been allocated for this contract," the statement reads.

The ministers de-jure launched the SCAF project at the site of the French company Safran.

At the same time, Safran and Germany's MTU signed an agreement on industrial cooperation to modernize the new generation aircraft.
