President Donald Trump and other senior US officials within the past two weeks have repeataedly said the military option is still on the table to resolve the crisis in Venezuela.

Guaido on January 23 proclaimed himself interim president of Venezuela and was immediately recognized by the United States and several US allies. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro called Guaido a US puppet and accused Washington of trying to orchestrate a coup.
