Ukraine's Opposition Figure Suggests Kiev To Resort To Falsifications In Presidential Vote

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th February, 2019) Viktor Medvedchuk, the leader of the opposition Ukrainian Choice - Right of People public movement, who is also Kiev's representative in the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group for the Donbas settlement, suggested that Ukrainian authorities would bribe voters and resort to ballot rigging during the upcoming presidential election.

"Everything will be used falsifications and bribing voters ... Such an unreal number of people, who are not even close to claiming the highest position in the country, is one of the biggest and most major falsifications," Medvedchuk told Russia's Channel One.

The politician noted over 40 presidential candidates would run in the Ukrainian election.

Medvedchuk suggested that the authorities had registered such a high number of candidates in order to exploit their right to be represented in electoral commissions at every level.

Medvedchuk is currently in the center of a criminal probe by Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office over suspected state treason and infringement on the country's territorial integrity. According to the prosecutors, the probe was launched in connection with Medvedchuk's proposal to create an autonomous region of Donbas within Ukraine. Reacting to the matter, the Kremlin has said that information about the initiation or the possibility of such a criminal case launched against Medvedchuk was very alarming.

Ukraine's ex-president Viktor Yanukovych said on Wednesday that current Ukrainian head of state Petro Poroshenko would try to use all possible means, including illegal ones, to win the country's upcoming election set for March 31.

Moreover, Yanukovych said he had information about Medvedchuk receiving threats.
