MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th February, 2019) The global demand in air cargo increased by 3.5 percent last year as compared with a 9.7 percent growth in 2017, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said in a Wednesday statement.

"Air cargo demand lost momentum towards the end of 2018 in the face of weakening global trade, sagging consumer confidence and geopolitical headwinds. Still, demand grew by 3.5% compared to 2017. We are cautiously optimistic that demand will grow in the region of 3.7% in 2019," Alexandre de Juniac, IATA's director general and CEO, said as quoted in the statement.

At the same time, freight capacity increased by 5.4 percent in 2018, outpacing demand amid weakening of global economic activity and consumer confidence.
