MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th February, 2019) The issues raised in a report by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on Russia's compliance with the World Trade Organization (WTO) rules demonstrate that Washington is interested in advancing dialogue with Moscow, President of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Russia Alexis Rodzianko told Sputnik on Tuesday.

The report, released on Monday, accused Russia of shifting away from the WTO market-opening rules and said that the United States would take all appropriate measures to keep Russia's markets open to US exports.

"We perceived the issues raised in the report by trade representative rather positively, as an indicator of interest in developing mutual trade and dialogue between relevant [government] agencies of the two countries," Rodzianko said.

He described the WTO as the best platform to discuss contentious issues that arise between countries.

In particular, USTR complained about Russia's import licensing regime, calling it "burdensome and opaque."

According to USTR, in 2017, US goods exports to Russia were $7 billion, while imports totaled $17 billion. In the same year, the United States exported $4.9 billion in services to Russia and imported $2.1 billion.
