Turkey Voices Concern Over Suspension of US-Russian INF Treaty - Erdogan's Spokesman

Turkey is concerned about the decision by Washington and Moscow to suspend their obligations under the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and urges both countries to engage in a dialogue, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Monday

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 04th February, 2019) Turkey is concerned about the decision by Washington and Moscow to suspend their obligations under the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty and urges both countries to engage in a dialogue, presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said Monday.

Last week, the United States announced that the country suspended its obligations under the INF Treaty starting from February 2 and would start the withdrawal process, which would be completed in six months unless Moscow remedied country's alleged violations of the bilateral arms control deal. On February 2, President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia also suspended its obligations under the treaty in response to the US move.

"We are concerned about the two countries' withdrawal from the INF Treaty. The United States and Russia are now accusing each other of who was the first to violate the treaty ... If something needs to be updated or revised, the sides should discuss it in order to come to a common stance and act based on it," Kalin told reporters.
