Shaniera calls Pakistan women team ‘heroic’ for beating West Indies

Says these girls are heroic because they don’t just play cricket because they are good at it, they are playing for acceptance, pride and dignity

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 3rd February, 2019) Pakistan women cricket team won the third and final T20I against the West Indies Women at Karachi’s Southend Club on Sunday.

Wasim Akram’s wife Shaniera Akram was also present in the stadium to watch the match. She was seen cheering the green shirts towards the win.

Later taking to Instagram, Shaniera posted a selfie with the women cricket team and called them heroes of Pakistan.

She said that these girls are heroic because they don’t just play cricket because they are good at it, they are playing for acceptance, pride, dignity, self-worth, breaking stigmas, equality, empowerment and of course the future.

“They are playing for every girl born in Pakistan that has or will have a passion for sport. They are role models to the highest level!” she wrote.

The Pakistani side had won the toss and opted to bat first; a trend that has been seen in all three matches of the series.

The hosts made 150-6 in their 20 overs, with Nida’s 53 off 40 balls being the highlight of the Pakistan effort.

Nida Dar’s superb 53 helped Pakistani team avoid the whitewash against the West Indies team.
