MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd February, 2019) The government of the Central African Republic (CAR) and opposition groups reached a peace agreement on Saturday during their talks in Sudan's capital, Khartoum, African Union (AU) Commissioner for Peace and Security Smail Chergui said."#Centrafrique: I am humbled to announce that with the exemplary cooperation I received from both the Government of the CAR(@GouvCF) and the 14 armed groups, we have secured a #peace agreement today in the interest of the people of #CAR. #AfricanInitiative," Chergui wrote on Twitter.
The landlocked car has been suffering from a drawn-out conflict since a coup in 2013. Much of the fighting in recent years has been between Muslim-majority Seleka and Christian Anti-Balaka militias.
