All work and no play: Colour days, farewell parties banned in govt schools

The school teachers are not happy over the decision and said this is not the right step.

Faisalabad (Pakistan Point News – 2nd February, 2019) Celebrating colour days and farewells have been banned in government schools in Faisalabad.

Media reports said that Secondary education DEO has issued directives to the school heads. The directives stated that colour days and farewell parties are not allowed be arranged in schools anymore.

The school teachers are not happy over the decision and said this is not the right step.

The school heads are of the view that holding farewell parties is a healthy tradition.

The students of government schools have also opposed the decision.

Expressing disappointment over these directives, they said that the government schools already do not hold many extra-curricular activities. Moreover, farewells give them a chance to reminisce all the years they have spent in the school.

All work and no play definitely makes the students dull. Such activities are important to keep them motivated for their studies.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Naeem-ul-Haq said that schoolchildren get very little time for extracurricular activities due to heavy workload.

In a tweet, Naeem ul Haq said, “schoolchildren spend 6-8 hours studying at school and then if they have to spend another 1-2 hours doing homework it leaves little time for other activities which are essential for healthy growth.”

“Should homework for schoolchildren be banned?” he had asked in his recent tweet.
