Pope’s visit ‘makes history’, says Dubai publisher

DUBAI, (Pakistan Point News - 31st Jan, 2019) The visit to the UAE next week by Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church, "makes history for the region," according to Ian Fairservice, an expatriate resident of Dubai for over 40 years.

Fairservice, managing partner of Motivate Publishing, one of the largest English language book publisher in the Arabian Gulf, added that the visit "is a further example of how broad-minded the Emirates are, and how accepting this country is of other cultures and religions."

"With the visit drawing near, there is a high level of excitement not only amongst members of the UAE’s diverse Catholic community but which extends throughout all communities," Fairservice told the Emirates news Agency, WAM.

"This will be an historic event that draws international attention to the UAE’s policy of religious and cultural tolerance."

To coincide with the visit, Motivate is launching on 3rd February a new book entitled 'Celebrating Tolerance, Religious Diversity in the United Arab Emirates.' Edited by Reverend Canon Andrew Thompson, Vicar of the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Abu Dhabi, the book has a foreword by the UAE Minister of Tolerance, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, and includes contributions by ten leaders of different faith groups in the Emirates discussing the freedom to worship enjoyed by their communities.
