Threatening call made to Sahiwal family's lawyer was a prank

The person to call him was his friend Dr Humayun Taimoor.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 29th January, 2019) The details of the threatening call made to the lawyer of Sahiwal family have been revealed.

Lawyer Syed Shahbaz Haider said that the call was made by his own friend, not the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials.

The person to call him was his friend Dr Humayun Taimoor.

Dr Humayun said that he had done a prank with his friend which he took seriously.

Lawyer Syed Shahbaz Bukhari had on Monday claimed that a CTD official had called him, asking him to stand down from the matter.

He also played the audio recording of the conversation before the media persons, declaring it a concrete evidence of the CTD’s involvement in hurling serious threats at him.

He had also asked the government to provide security to him and his family.

Sahiwal encounter

Four people including two women were killed during an action by Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Sahiwal on Saturday.

Reportedly, the incident occurred at Qadirabad where a team of CTD Lahore, taking action against a suspected car, shot dead two men and two women.

Later, the CTD team took the bodies, children and other valuables from the vehicle. However, the team later on dropped the children at a filling station.

With the alleged shady encounter on a highway in Sahiwal district, a big question mark was posed on the functioning of Punjab Police.

The victims were first declared as kidnappers and then as terrorists from a proscribed group by the police force, which raised eyebrows on the alleged shootout, followed by contradictory witnesses' narratives.

As the incident drew wide ire and condemnation, demands were also made for a thorough probe.

Earlier today, the families of those killed in the Sahiwal encounter have expressed their mistrust over the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigating the incident.

The families have instead demanded to conduct the trial in military court.

The Sahiwal family had reached Islamabad to meet the Senate Standing Committee on Interior.

Speaking to media before leaving for Islamabad, slain Khalil’s brother said, “We are not satisfied with the JIT. We want a judicial inquiry.”

The brother added that this is a national issue and we want justice on the incident.
