Around 200 People Missing After Dam Collapse In Southeastern Brazil - Reports

MEXICO CITY (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th January, 2019) Around 200 people have gone missing after a tailings dam owned by Brazilian mining corporation Vale collapsed in the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, local media reported on Friday, citing fire-fighting services.

The dam ruptured on Friday morning. While Vale said that the collapse could have claimed lives, no fatalities have been confirmed so far.

The Globo news outlet added that four people have been injured, and all of them have been taken to hospital.

Mud floods, triggered by the dam collapse, have done damage to Vale's administrative buildings, along with several houses located in Minas Gerais' Brumadinho municipality.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro expressed regret over the incident, saying that he had ordered to the country's ministers of regional development, energy, and civil defense to arrive in Minas Gerais.

Fire-fighters and civil defense officers are working at the location of the collapse.
