Kremlin Hopes NATO Will Hear Russia's Position on INF at Upcoming Bilateral Council

Russia will continue to defend its position on the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) at the upcoming NATO-Russia Council that is to start later in the day and hopes that NATO partners will hear Moscow's arguments, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th January, 2019) Russia will continue to defend its position on the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) at the upcoming NATO-Russia Council that is to start later in the day and hopes that NATO partners will hear Moscow's arguments, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

"Speaking of today's event, the Russian side will continue to communicate its position to our partners... And we hope that they will listen to us and hear us," Peskov said.

"Russia's position on the INF Treaty is consistent and well known. There was a round of consultations with US partners on this issue, which we can not call successful. Our diplomats tried to convey our arguments on the INF Treaty to the US partners, but the Americans did not demonstrate readiness to engage in bilateral dialogue," the spokesman said.

Another proof that Washington was not ready for talks was the fact that the military attaches from the United States and its NATO allies had ignored the recent briefing on the 9M729 missile organized by the Russian Defense Ministry, the spokesman added.
