Around 7,000 Families Remain in Idlib De-Escalation Zone in Syria - Governor

Around 7,000 families remain in the de-escalation zone in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib, Muhammad Fadi Sadun, the acting governor of Idlib Province, said on Thursday

HAMA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 24th January, 2019) Around 7,000 families remain in the de-escalation zone in the northwestern Syrian province of Idlib, Muhammad Fadi Sadun, the acting governor of Idlib Province, said on Thursday.

"Around 7,000 families remain in the Idlib de-escalation zone. During the war, around 30,000 families have left Idlib Province, of them around 11,000 families are currently in emergency accommodation camps in Hama or at their relatives' places, around 10,000 families are in Damascus, 5,000 more families are in Latakia, and the others are staying in other Syrian regions," Sadun told reporters while visiting refugee camps in Hama.

The official specified that 10 temporary accommodation facilities had been set up in Hama's schools and administrative buildings. Those who were forced to flee their homes face the need to restore their documents, since they cannot receive aid without this, and this is the main problem that they experience, according to Sadun. The governor went on to say that a whole "generation of children without documents" had been raised in Idlib over the seven years of the civil war.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 44,736 people left the Idlib de-escalation zone since March 2018.

The United Nation estimates the number of people living in Idlib at 2.9 million.

While the Syrian government has regained control over most of the country's territories, Idlib remains a stronghold of insurgency, where over 10 militant groups operate, including the National Front for the Liberation of Syria and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization (banned in Russia).
