MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st January, 2019) The Russian gas giant Gazprom has completed construction of more than 20 percent of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, the company's CEO, Alexey Miller, told reporters on Monday.

"The works are being carried out as scheduled, more than 20 percent of this new undersea gas pipeline has been already constructed," Miller said after the trilateral gas transit consultations between Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission.

Nord Stream 2 is a joint venture of Gazprom and five European companies. The project envisages the construction of two gas pipelines that will run from Russia, through the Baltic Sea to a hub in Germany, bypassing Ukraine entirely. It aims to deliver 55 billion cubic meters (1.9 trillion cubic feet) of Russian natural gas to the EU states every year.
