Japan Starts G20 Presidency With Focus on Aging Populations - Central Bank Governor

TOKYO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) Japan, as the president of the G20 in 2019, has offered to exchange its experience on the population aging issue as one of the main topics on the summit agenda, Japan's Central Bank Governor Haruhiko Kuroda said Thursday at the international symposium in Tokyo.

"While some emerging economies in the G-20 are now seeing an increase in their young-age labor force, these countries will also face the aging problem sooner or later," Kuroda said, as quoted by the Kyodo news agency.

Kuroda stressed that this was the main reason to choose demographic problems as one of the themes of the G20 summit this year.

"I believe it is important for the G-20 members to learn from each other's demographic conditions, institutional settings, and policy responses," he added.

According to the bank's governor, the aging and population decline does not necessarily reduce the macroeconomic indicators and the degree of its growth.

The demand for health care professionals would increase due to the graying population, Kuroda stressed.

The 14th annual G20 summit will be held on June 28-29 in Osaka, bringing together the leaders of the world's 20 largest economies.
