Qatar and Turkey signed defense agreements worth 15 billion Qatari riyals (over $4 billion) in 2018, Turkey Expo Qatar board member Atilla Kurucayirli said Wednesday

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th January, 2019) Qatar and Turkey signed defense agreements worth 15 billion Qatari Riyals (over $4 billion) in 2018, Turkey Expo Qatar board member Atilla Kurucayirli said Wednesday.

The event featuring over 150 Turkish companies began earlier in the day in Doha.

"Last year, Qatar signed deals with Turkish companies in the military and defense sectors in the amount of 15 billion riyals. In particular, Qatar signed a contract worth more than $300 million with one of the largest Turkish companies that builds warships," Kurucayirli said.

He noted that Doha and Ankara had also created a joint company called BMC to develop and produce new weapons with about $180 million in capital. Qatar also signed a deal worth $100 million with a Turkish company to make military uniforms.

Over 300 Turkish and joint ventures are currently operating in Qatar, with their investments in the Qatari market amounting to $16 billion. This year, trade between the two countries is expected to exceed $5 billion.
