Russian Watchdog Sends 2nd Demand to Google Asking to Start Blocking Illegal Websites

Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications (Roskomnadzor) has demanded Google for the second time to join the system of banned content filtering and pledged to check the search engine's compliance with the national requirements in late February, a spokesman for the watchdog told Sputnik Tuesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th January, 2019) Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications (Roskomnadzor) has demanded Google for the second time to join the system of banned content filtering and pledged to check the search engine's compliance with the national requirements in late February, a spokesman for the watchdog told Sputnik Tuesday.

On December 11, Roskomnadzor fined Google $7,500 for failing to abide by the new law requiring requires all search engines to filter and block content from websites flagged as illegal in a special registry.

"We have sent a second request to Google today asking to join the system. They have 30 days to comply starting the day the request was received and three additional days to start filtering the content after joining the system. Sometime in late February we will check the compliance," Vadim Ampelonsky said.
