DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th January, 2019) US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has promised to talk to the Saudi crown prince to ensure accountability for the death of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
"We will continue to have a conversation with the crown prince of the Saudis about ensuring that the accountability is full and conclusive with respect to the unacceptable murder of Jamal Khashoggi," he said.
Pompeo is expected to fly to Riyadh on Sunday as part of his week-long tour of the middle East, spanning Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait.
He told journalists during his Doha stop he would make sure the United States had all the facts so that the accounts of the Khashoggi's murder by Riyadh and Washington were "appropriate."
The Saudi Arabian government denies its role in the murder of the opposition journalist by what it claims was a rogue security operation. Khashoggi vanished in October after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
