MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th January, 2019) Russia welcomes the fact that experts of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) arrived in Syria on January 6 to gather data on November's alleged chemical weapons attack in Aleppo, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Friday.

"We note with satisfaction that following repeated appeals of Syria and Russia to the OPCW, experts of the Fact-Finding Mission finally arrived in Syria on January 6 to investigate the incident with the use of chlorine," Zakharova said.

On November 24, militants reportedly fired chlorine-filled shells at two neighborhoods of Aleppo. People were hospitalized with asphyxiation and other symptoms typical for poisoning. According to local media reports, 107 civilians were hospitalized.

Following the attack, Russian military chemists arrived in Aleppo to monitor the situation. The Russian Defense Ministry said that 46 people, including eight children, were injured in the chemical attack. The ministry stressed that the Russian side had previously drawn attention to the fact that the White Helmets organization was trying to organize provocations using chemical agents against the local population in the demilitarized zone around Syria's Idlib.
