WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 11th January, 2019) New legislation to be presented in the US Senate will propose temporary protected status for Venezuelans who have fled President Nicolas Maduro's government, Senator Robert Menendez said in a press release.
"I will re-introduce comprehensive bipartisan legislation to address Venezuela's collapse and humanitarian crisis, as well as a bipartisan bill to provide Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans in the United States," Menendez said in the release on Thursday.
The same day, Maduro was sworn-in this morning for a new six-year term.
The US government needed to do more to help Venezuelans and to lead a comprehensive international effort to secure new elections and a democratic transition in Venezuela, Menendez said.
