MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th January, 2019) UK Prime Minister Theresa May will hold a meeting with her Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, in London later on Thursday to discuss a joint program for developing a "cutting-edge" robotic technology that will help advance innovation, May's office said in a statement, adding that the initial funding of the program would amount to 30 million Pounds ($38 million).

"The UK and Japan will announce an ambitious programme - and 30m of initial funding - for cutting-edge technology to boost innovation, create high-skilled jobs and improve people's quality of life," the statement read.

The program will include designing robotic systems that will enable the two countries' aging populations to live independently in their homes for longer; finding new treatments for chronic health conditions; and also ensuring "a cleaner world for future generations" via the creation of new forms of environmentally friendly transportation.

This new technology could create 175,000 new jobs and boost the UK manufacturing sector by 455 billion pounds within the next 10 years, according to May's office.

May and Abe are also set to discuss post-Brexit economic opportunities for both countries, strengthening maritime cooperation and increasing the number of joint defense exercises, the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and defense technology collaboration.
