Launch Of Russia's Nauka Lab Module To ISS Postponed Until 2020 - Roscosmos Head

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th January, 2019) The launch of the Russian Multipurpose Laboratory Module (MLM) Nauka to the International Space Station (ISS) has been postponed until 2020, head of the Russian Roscosmos space corporation Dmitry Rogozin said on Thursday.

The launch of the Nauka module was previously scheduled for late 2019. In June, a source at the Baikonur Cosmodrome told Sputnik that the launch of the module could be postponed until 2020.

"We are planning to send the Multipurpose Laboratory Module there [to ISS] in early 2020, which will expand the operation space of the Russian [ISS] segment, as well as two more modules - docking and energy ones - in 2022," Rogozin told the RBK broadcaster.

The construction of MLM Nauka was launched in 1995, however the project was revised several times. The module is designed for scientific work, storing cargoes, docking spaceships and research modules, as well as fuel transfer from Progress spacecrafts to the Zvezda Service Module.
