Chinese Leader Xi Expresses Support For Next Kim-Trump Meeting

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th January, 2019) Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday expressed support for holding the next meeting between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump.

Earlier in the day, Kim held talks with Xi as part of his four-day visit to China which began on Monday. The North Korean leader said during the talks he would seek the next meeting with Trump to bring results.

"The Chinese side supports North Korea in its adherence to the denuclearization policy, backs the improvement of relations between the North and the South and supports holding a meeting between the leaders of the United States and North Korea," Xi said during his meeting with Kim, as quoted by the Xinhua news agency.

Xi expressed hope that Washington and Pyongyang would make concessions to each other, adding Beijing was ready to play an active and constructive role in ensuring peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

The Chinese leader also noted the existing trend for peaceful dialogue and stability in the area.

Xi welcomed the steps taken by North Korea toward the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The Chinese leader noted that the progress in the settlement of the Korean nuclear issue had been reached due to the efforts of Pyongyang and other involved countries.

Kim and Trump held their first landmark summit in June in Singapore. During the talks, both top politicians expressed their commitment for the full denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
