ABU DHABI, (Pakistan Point News - 08th Jan, 2019) Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, said that Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019, which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, is a global platform for investing in future technology.

In an interview with the Emirates news Agency, WAM, Al Ramahi said that youth are a key focus of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019, as a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development.

He added that Sustainability Week, which is being held under the theme of ‘Industry Convergence: Accelerating Sustainable Development’, does not only attracts presidents of countries, ministers, and senior officials from over 100 countries, but it also attracts international companies and institutions, as well as investors and developers looking for opportunities.

Al Ramahi stressed that Masdar is a leading regional and international company in the area of sustainability and renewable energy, with projects in more than 20 countries.

He noted that Masdar supports the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership to develop the country into an international leader in innovation, promoting clean energy solutions, and raising awareness about its environmental and economic benefits.

Over the past decade, Masdar has been a major contributor to the economic diversification process in Abu Dhabi, he noted. Since its establishment, the company has placed the emirate at the forefront of research and technology in the clean energy sector, in collaboration with local strategic partners and several international projects and have contributed to the provision of about 4 gigawatts of clean electricity.

He emphasised that the company has a strategic investment plan for five years, which it aims to implement new projects.

"This year, we have expanded the scope of the week to cover renewable energy and other areas, in line with the UAE's vision and the sustainable development goals adopted by the United Nations and working to meet the challenges of global sustainability according to the approach of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week," he added.

Al Ramahi added that company’s current priorities include energy, climate change, water, the future of transport, space, biotechnology, and technology for a better life, while stressing that the World Future Energy Summit is the main event of the week, as it will host over 850 companies from 40 countries.

The first edition of the summit will be held on the 15th and 16th January, and will bring together leaders from the public and private sectors, with the aim of accelerating the process of creating sustainable communities, he noted.

The summit will also bring together senior investors from major companies, international organisations, relevant partners, academics and major influencers, to exchange ideas on the region’s sustainable funding sector, and will reveal the plan of the "Abu Dhabi Global Market" to establish an international sustainable funding centre, Al Ramahi further said.
