Ruet-e-Hilal Committees not being disbanded, minister clarifies

Maulana Noor ul Haq Qadri brushed aside the reports of Ruet-e-Hilal committees being disbanded at all levels.

Lahore (Pakistan Point News – 8th January, 2019) Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Maulana Noor ul Haq Qadri has denied the reports of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee being disbanded.

The minister said that the Ruet-e-Hilal Committees have not been disbanded. Instead, committees have been formed to resolve the conflict over moon sighting.

Maulana Noor ul Haq also clarified that all the Twitter accounts in his name are fake and brushed aside the reports of Ruet-e-Hilal committees being disbanded at all levels.

Earlier there were reports that the Federal government has decided to disband the Ruet-e-Hilal committees at all levels and assigned the task of moon sighting to the Meteorological Department.

According to media reports, the decision was made in view of the confusion created over the moon sightings by the committees. These controversial decisions cost millions to the national exchequer.

Reports further stated that the Met department will now announce the beginning and end of Islamic months based on scientific calculations.
