German Cybersecurity Agency Says Was Aware of Private Data Hacking Cases in 2018

Germany's information security agency, BSI, admitted on Saturday it was aware of several cases when hackers had stolen personal data of German politicians in 2018, adding that those cases might be linked to the recent data breach.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th January, 2019) Germany's information security agency, BSI, admitted on Saturday it was aware of several cases when hackers had stolen personal data of German politicians in 2018, adding that those cases might be linked to the recent data breach.

BSI said it had been alerted by a lawmaker in early December about attempts to obtain his private data and later linked this case to four others.

"The BSI offered the member of parliament its help... It did not know about plans or actions to publish stolen data or the link to the publication via Twitter account "G0d" (@_0rbit) until the night from Jan.3 to Jan.4, 2019," the agency said in a statement.

"Only after it discovered the publication of data via Twitter account "G0d" on Jan.3, 2019 the BSI was able to analyze it [the breach] on Jan.4, 2019 and link it to other four cases that it became aware of during 2018," it explained.

German media reported on Friday that hackers published addresses, phone numbers, some work and personal correspondence of German politicians, as well as some internal party documents.
